Journalists from around the state of North Carolina and surrounding areas gathered at Wake Forest’s Innovation Quarter to learn about data journalism and how it is used in investigative reporting on June 18-19. Annual Student Prize in Journalism Awarded

Erin Stephens and Heather Hartel have been awarded the Bynum Shaw Prize in Journalism. Megan Schmit was recognized as a finalist for the award. This annual journalism award is named for Bynum Shaw, a WFU graduate who worked as a Washington Correspondent, European Correspondent, and editorial writer for the Baltimore Sun before returning to Wake in 1965 to run the journalism and creative writing programs. Kiley Price Receives Pulitzer Center Student Fellowship

Junior Kiley Price received the 2018 Pulitzer Center Student Fellowship from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. With this $3000 grant, Price will be traveling to Thailand in May to research the role and impact of activist Buddhists in the Thai environmental movement. See more about Price here.

Bradley Singleton (‘17) is currently working for NBC in New York for the Early Today Show as a Production Assistant. He orders the graphics for the show and writes the sports and entertainment stories for air. He is also over the show’s social media pages. Hinman (‘16) Produces Local News for WGHP Fox8

Buck Hinman (‘16) was nominated for a regional Emmy for his work at WTVG 13abc in Ohio. Hinman recently moved from Toledo, OH where he worked as a producer.
