Photos by Walker Evans on display at Hanes Gallery

The Hanes Gallery is currently featuring a collection titled Walker Evans: Landscapes in Tradition. Evans was an American photographer and photojournalist who worked during the Great Depression. His photos “depict the crumbling infrastructure of the United States during the unstable economy of the Depression,” said Wake Forest student Yassmine Rohlf. “[They] highlight important themes of faith, home, and work, being the tripod for life for immigrants and steelworkers during the Depression.”

This exhibit also features photos Evans took in Winston-Salem.

Curated by Professor Jay Curley (Art History), this collection will continue to run through January 21, 2019, closing temporarily during winter break. It is displayed the Mezzanine Gallery of the Hanes Art Gallery, located in Scales Fine Arts Center.
